Some recipes call for skinned tomatoes, and if canned tomatoes won't work in your recipe, you will need to blanch and peel them yourself. It actually isn't difficult to learn how to peel a tomato, as the following video demonstrates:
- Bring water to a boil in a saucepan.
- Remove the stems and cut an "X" in the bottom of the tomatoes. This will allow the hot water to get under the skin and loosen it for easier skinning.
- Put tomatoes in boiling water for about 15-30 seconds.
- Plunge the tomatoes into the ice bath and take them out again.
- Use a paring knife to peel the skin off the tomato starting at the "X".
Tomatoes are very healthy and one of the most frequently used ingredients in common dishes like Tomato Soup, Guacamole, Pizzas, and many kinds of Pasta.
