How to Cook Basmati Rice

Being able to prepare Basmati rice perfectly can add a large variety of new dishes to your repertoire. Check out these popular Basmati rice recipes that you will be able to cook after finishing this lesson.

The following clip shows you how to steam Basmati rice to make it nice and fluffy.

Just remember the following steps and your rice will turn out every time.

  1. Measure your rice and then rinse off the starch from the rice with cold water.
  2. Put the rice in a pot and spice it with salt and pepper.
  3. You can use star anise and pierced cardamom seeds to add some flavor to your rice.
  4. Add water: 1 part rice to 1.5 parts water, so for 100 grams of Basmati rice, you want to add 150 ml of cold water.
  5. Put the lid on and heat up the stove to the highest level to bring the water to a boil as quickly as possible.
  6. Once the water is boiling, turn down the heat and let the rice steam for 8-10 minutes. Do not open the lid!
  7. After the time is up, open the lid (take out the star anise) and give it a good stir with a wooden spoon.
