Caffeine is a substance naturally found in some plants. It is also produced synthetically and added to various foods and drinks. Whether natural or man made, caffeine is widely known for its stimulating effect on the body. Many people consume caffeine every morning when they drink their daily cup (or two or three) of coffee or tea. Caffeine is also found in soda, energy drinks, chocolate, and even in some medications.1

A moderate intake of caffeine of about 250 mg/day (about three cups of coffee) is generally considered to be safe.2

Excessive caffeine consumption can cause anxiety, insomnia, nausea, and a fast heartbeat.
