How to Cook Pasta

light bulb

In this Lesson you will Learn

  1. Tips to make your pasta turn out perfect.

Cooking pasta is very simple but you need to get the timing right. Here are a few simple tricks that will help you boil the perfect pasta.

  1. Bring water in a big pot to a rolling boil before adding the pasta.
  2. Put plenty of salt into the water, this is your only chance to infuse flavor into the pasta. Don't skimp on the salt, most of it will stay in the water anyway. If the water has a slightly salty taste to it, you're good.
  3. Optionally: Add a few drops of oil to the water to avoid foaming and overboiling (but the oil will not help keep the pasta from sticking together, by the way).
  4. Once the water is boiling, put the pasta in. Depending on the kind you could use the little twisting trick from the video. Once the pasta is in the water give it a good stir to prevent the noodles from sticking together.
  5. Boil the pasta according to the instructions on the box, they are usually very precise.
  6. Once the pasta is done (try it, don't rely on the timer alone), strain it and immediately mix it with the sauce. After it is cooked, there is a thin layer of starch around the noodles which helps make the sauce stick to the noodles. If you let it sit, the noodles will stick to each other instead. If you do not want to mix it with a sauce, mix in some butter or olive oil to keep the noodles from sticking together.
